Baby #7 (shhhhhh! It's a boy!) is scheduled to arrive in less than 3 weeks! As with all of my other children, I'd like to mark his arrival with something unique and special. With each child, we've added on to the traditions that initiate a new member of our family, and I've run out of unique ideas (Give me a break! My brain has been doubly-fried by pregnancy AND bed rest!). I need your help!
As I just mentioned, we try to keep doing the already-established traditions, but add on a new one for each baby. So, here is the list:
Baby #1: We sang him "Happy Birthday" when he was born.
Baby #2: "Happy Birthday", plus we made sure to have a Baby Book ready and waiting to mark those first, few special days.
Baby #3: "Happy Birthday", Baby Book, and her brothers presented her with a special toy that they had shopped for and purchased just for her.
Baby #4: "Happy Birthday", Baby Book, Siblings' Gift, Special Homecoming outfit.
Baby #5: "Happy Birthday", Baby Book, Siblings' Gift, Special Homecoming outfit, Patron Saint medal.
Baby #6: "Happy Birthday", Baby Book, Siblings' Gift, Special Homecoming outfit, Patron Saint medal, Personalized baby blanket.
SO! What are some special "new baby" traditions are particular to your family? Have you heard of one that you'd like to try, but haven't gotten around to it yet?
What I like about our traditions is that they are nice mix of "things" and "actions", making them even more memorable. What are some easy ways that your family celebrates your bundles of joy?
I can't wait to hear your answers... and, HURRY!!!
Oh my goodness, we're such losers. I've never even given it a thought beyond "sweet outfit to carry you home in".
ReplyDeleteYou are NOT a loser! Since my 1st (and 3rd and 4th!) were all supposed to be home births (only got my wish with #3!), I had no need for the homecoming outfit idea and I just can't force myself to do belly casts (where the heck do I display those without feeling horribly self-conscious?), I HAD to come up with something else. For #1, the singing of Happy Birthday came from my husband who was trying to use it as a bribe to make our overdue baby COME OUT! So, even simple things -- like singing a song -- have made their way into our traditions in very roundabout ways. :)
DeleteThis may sound too obvious--but, how about a birthday cake for older children to devour!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you have 3 more weeks left--for me it went by fast--for you? probably not so fast lol
congrats ahead of time, esp on finding out you have another little son!
LOVE the birthday cake idea, Christina! And, so would my kids! ;-) In fact, maybe my kids could bake and decorate it and sneak it into the hospital for a Birth Day Party! FUN! Thank you!
DeleteIt really has sped by for me (well, shaving off the last 6 weeks of a pregnancy also helps!), and now I'm worried I didn't enjoy it enough! We're very excited about adding Boy #5 -- well, less excitement from the 2 girls.... ;-)
Oh man, we are so lame. Usually I have a baby book (but not with Cecilia) and with Cecilia I made a blanket before she was born. So, um....I am no help at all! I might steal some of your ideas, though :)
ReplyDeleteYou and Lisa better stop it with the "loser" and "lame" labels!!! I think I had to come up with these things as my first 3 kids were all overdue (1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks) and I needed additional distractions so I wouldn't do something stupid to induce labor. ;-)
DeleteAnd, you go ahead and steal away!
Shamrock Shakes are always nice!
ReplyDeleteIt's true that this will be our first MacDougal Shake baby....
DeleteWow! Some really great ideas here, but I would suggest you check out kylepdempseyonlineinformationdotcom.blogspot.com for some other great ideas!
ReplyDeleteHoney, are you spamming my blog? ;)
DeleteWhat a fun blog!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your bio with us for Blogger Biographies :)
I LOVE this idea, and I think the birthday cake one is awesome.
(I was going to suggest Adopting Baby #8 as a surprise for Baby #7... but ya know, then that would be hard to top for Baby #8...)
