What's On Your Forehead?

"You've got something on your forehead..."

"Oh yeah? Well, you've got sin on your soul!"

I will not tell you who said that, in order to not bring scandal to anyone.

Fine! It was me. In college. In my defense, I attended a Catholic (in name) college and I was irritated that so many other students had pointed out the "dirt" on my forehead.

A couple of years have passed, and I've noticed a few things.

One thing I've noticed is that no one likes a Judgey McJudgerson. Even if that person happens to be technically correct.
It's much more gratifying to enlighten someone; perhaps gain a friend for yourself AND Jesus!

Another thing I've noticed is that there seems to be many more people walking around with ashes on their foreheads than there has been in the past. I don't know if that's actually true or just my imagination, but, in the interest of keeping me happy, let's just say it is true, mmmmmkay?

A third thing that has come to my attention is that I haven't received one of these comments about my forehead in a few years. It seems more and more, that people are getting used to seeing us Ash-Heads walking around this time of year. Do you think it's the Internet making people more aware of what's going on around them? Again, make me happy and say, "yes!".

What am I trying to say? I. Do. Not. Know.

Just my brain exploding all over this blog since I can't check out Facebook and Twitter. It will calm down in the next week or two, no worries!

I would also love to hear ideas for post topics! If you have any for me, just leave a comment or shoot me an email!

For those of you wondering how I posted this to Facebook and Twitter, the answer is: magic.
Or, maybe I just clicked that "share" button at the top of this page. Care to do the same? :)

Happy Fasting!

  1. I always am conflicted getting my babies ashed. I love that Will's adorable head doesn't have dirt on it. He's too sweet to ever sin, anyway.
    Ever. You hear me, Will?

    1. No! He got ashes, he just wiped them on me! Don't forget it's a powerful sacramental used to remind us to pay attention to the Gospel! It's good for babies! Just not great for my sweater.

  2. JBabe saw my forehead and pointed to it and repeatedly said, "Ow-ie? Ow-ie?" Until we rubbed foreheads and she gots some for herownself.

I love Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, because those are the only 2 days the pre-first communicant child can go up and receive something or venerate the cross. Baby steps to communion, both of those, for all of us.

    "Judgy McJudgerson" love it.

    1. Hey! Great minds, because I was thinking the same thing about pre-communicant kids at Mass this morning! Eamon was so proud to walk up with his sibs and have the ashes put on his forehead. It's the little participatory things that keep them interested, right?

Love that sweet JBabe thought you had an owie! She is such a compassionate girl!

    1. It all counts: early, noon, late! My husband is traveling for business and had to find a church close to his hotel. My 2 oldest receive their ashes at their Catholic high school, which is very convenient! And, I dragged the youngest 5 to our 8:30 Mass then brought 4 of them to school an hour late. Ya do what ya gotta do, right? ;)

  4. Baby Kate got her first ashes tonight at the tender age of 8mo. I thought it was beautiful :) ...she spit up on me and the church pew shortly thereafter, we dirtied her, she dirtied us back! By the way, you know how you have the typical black smudgy? I received a HUGE black cross, for real, eye brown to hairline. No mistaking this bad boy for dirt!
